just saying.

so the other day RawB's sister (who i don't have a nickname for yet, unfortch) sent me a facebook message asking me how much i liked my kindle fire because she was thinking about getting one.  i figured i would share my take on the kindle fire in the event that you might be purchasing one.  although it might sound like it, i really don't work for amazon.  this is just information that i gathered from their website when i was researching which kindle worked the best for me.  got it? boom. lets go.

let me start off by saying that i LOVE my kindle fire. it's definitely more like a tablet than an ereader (think a smaller, less expensive ipad...) the color screen is amazing, and it [the device] can do so much. i am currently without a laptop, so when i'm at home i use it to check my email, facebook, twitter, etc (basically anything that i would want to use the internet for). you can also download games and apps from the android market and watch tv shows & movies, which is really cool. however, it relies on a WiFi only network, so if you can't connect to WiFi you can really only read books on it. also, it can be difficult to read in bright light or outdoors because of the screen (major glare). i did get an anti-glare screen protector though that seems to help. also, since it is backlit, it runs though battery pretty quickly, especially if you have WiFi on. i generally have to charge mine every other day or so. however, it does charge pretty fast.

as far as the other kindles go....

the most basic kindle is $79. it also runs on WiFi, so you are able to buy/download books directly from it. however, i think it would be irritating to have to use the arrow controls to scroll & select everything...but that might just be me.

the next level up is the kindle touch, which i personally am not a huge fan of (which is kind of funny because it is not that much different than the fire). there are two options with the touch, wifi or 3G. if given the choice, i would choose 3G. it's more expensive, but you would be able to access the internet virtually anywhere. RawB seems to like his, but i don't think he's been able to really use it a lot.

then there's the kindle keyboard. my mom has one of these, and it's pretty cool. i personally like that there's a full keyboard right on the device; it makes it easier for searching for books. it also runs on 3g AND wifi, which is nice...and it's less expensive than the kindle touch 3g.

there's also another one, the kindle DX, that i know nothing about except for its like $400 (yikes!)

some other pros of the other kindles vs. the fire...
--e-ink technology! while it isn't difficult to read on the fire, reading on the other kindles is definitely more like reading from a book.

--battery life. the other kindles last MUCH longer than the fire does.

--3G internet. WiFi is awesome, don't get me wrong, but it would be cool to be able to use the internet basically anywhere.

basically, if you JUST want to READ on the kindle, i would go for one of the other models (my suggestion is the kindle keyboard). BUT since i love my kindle fire so much, i would recommend that over anything else haha. it basically just depends on how much money you want to spend, and what your basic functionality of it will be.

also, just as a side note...i would definitely recommend getting an amazon prime account (if you don't have one already), no matter which kindle you get. you get a free one month trial membership when you buy a kindle, which is pretty awesome.

hahaha, man, i should work for amazon! i just did a lot of research on them before i decided which one i really wanted. also, while you can order them online through amazon, i would at least think about getting it from best buy or another retailer. i say this because my mom got mine from best buy and was able to get an extended warranty plan on it. basically, if anything happens to mine in the next 2 years i can take to best buy and they can fix it for me at the store, versus me having to ship it back to amazon.

just as a side note...i know NOTHING about nooks or any other kind of ereader.  if you want to make an informed decision i recommend researching all outlets before purchasing.  just saying.
